Meet the Writers, Inc. supports literacy and fosters a love of reading in New York City students by bringing authors and artists to their schools. Through the lively exchange of ideas with inspiring writers, students become excited about books and the power of reading in their lives. Meet the Writers aims to reach all children, but has a particularly strong presence in Title I schools where the majority of students are part of low income families. Our goal is for every student who meets an author to go home with a signed book as a reminder of the relevance of reading. We believe that reading matters and that better readers make better writers and better thinkers.
“I was very moved by those kids….And I think what we need to do is educate them so they can become a power in the world. Almost every one of their questions was about how to do better.”
